Irish Crochet Lace at Taos

by Suzann Thompson | Oct 18, 2009 | Crochet, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion, Workshops

The second day of our Irish Crochet class at the Taos Wool Festival, I waited, seemingly innocently, until everyone left for lunch. Once I was certain they were all gone, I tiptoed around and took pictures of a few of the class samples. At this point, we had sewn our...

An Easy Crocheted Poppy

by Suzann Thompson | Oct 18, 2009 | Crochet, Crochet Bouquet, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

This simple crocheted poppy is none other than the large “Fancy Five” on page 24 of Crochet Bouquet. While not exactly botanically correct, it gets the idea across. If you want a more realistic poppy, try the one on pages 65-66 of Crochet Bouquet. The...

Seveness at Stitches Midwest

by Suzann Thompson | Oct 11, 2009 | Knitting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion, Workshops

Stitches Midwest was relaxed and pleasant at the Schaumburg Convention Center. The market was smaller than at other Stitches events, but the yarns and books and tools were just as tempting. By the time Sunday afternoon rolled around, everyone was tired and suffering...

by Suzann Thompson | Oct 11, 2009 | Crochet, Crochet Bouquet, Knitting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Stephanie Hatfield designed, knitted, and crocheted the garment that became the Grand Champion ribbon winner in the Taos Wool Festival Garment Competition. The jacket, called “Reverie” after a poem by Emily Dickinson, glowed with the soft colors of bison...

Vintage Flower Fabric

by Suzann Thompson | Sep 26, 2009 | Crochet, Crochet Bouquet, Crochet Charm Lace, Doily Adventure, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Being a fan of flower fabric, I was happy to find this vintage pattern book, Doily Bouquet (Star Book No. 71, by American Thread Company). The doily at the top right is made of flowers crocheted separately at first, and apparently joined as they are made. For my own...

by Suzann Thompson | Sep 1, 2009 | Knitting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Stitches Midwest is next week! My friend Gail Hughes will be there with her wonderful buttons. Please stop by her booth. It’s a feast for the eyes! This reminds me that I never showed you the final stage of the Red Sweater Renovation. It was the most fun stage,...

A year ago I was breathing a bunch of sighs of rel A year ago I was breathing a bunch of sighs of relief, because I had finished an intense crochet design project. I designed, crocheted, wrote patterns, and took step-by-step pictures of a bunch of flowery bookmarks. Most of the ones in the picture made it into a kit published by Quarto.

The Town ‘n Country Quilt Guild of Stephenville, T The Town ‘n Country Quilt Guild of Stephenville, TX, close at 4 PM today. There’s time, if you live close by, to visit all the quilts and the Country Store, where you can find lots of previously loved items for sale. There was a pretty good stack of doilies yesterday, priced to move. Somebody bought a couple or three, and I don’t know what happened after that. Maybe there are some left.

In the summer of 2025, @let_me_ellaborate and @wre In the summer of 2025, @let_me_ellaborate and @wren.nests created a mosaic of willow-pattern china shards for the top shelf of a little bookcase. Their work helped me muster the energy to repaint the bookcase, and later to grout the mosaic.
I put the bookcase back in my bedroom and loaded the books back on the lower shelves. The poor tissue box sits on the floor now, because I am not going to put anything on top of that mosaic, if I can help it! Thank you, Ella and Wren!❤️❤️
