Crochet in the Angel Rose Bed & Breakfast

by Suzann Thompson | Aug 13, 2026 | Crochet, Doily Adventure, TextileFusion

The latest outing of Texas Crochet Heritage and Celebrate Doilies took me to Rockport, Texas. It was a long drive from Comanche County to deliver the quilts, and another long drive to pick them up when the exhibit was over. For both trips, I had the great good fortune...

Peacock in the Garden

by Suzann Thompson | Aug 9, 2026 | Art Quilt, Crochet, Doily Adventure, Quilting and Crafting, TextileFusion

Every now and then I make the trek to the Chicken House Flea Market between Stephenville and Dublin, Texas, to look for vintage crochet. Sometimes I’m lucky, especially the time this filet crochet peacock turned up in one of the shops for $1.00. That is not a...

Kerrville Honeycomb Doily Origin Story

by Suzann Thompson | Jan 14, 2022 | Celebrate Doilies, Crochet, Doily Adventure, TextileFusion

Hexie quilts are so pretty and simple, they’ve inspired many a quilter to take up paper-piecing. Quilters get into the slow process of hand-sewing the hexies together, and one day, they have sewn together enough motifs for a quilt top! I’m all about...

Who here had a bed doll with a fancy crocheted dre Who here had a bed doll with a fancy crocheted dress?

I never did, but that doesn’t stop me from admiring the skill and workmanship that goes into making one.

The purple dress is from Annie’s Calendar Bed Doll Society, May 1993. Over the years, Annie Potter came up with dozens of amazing bed doll patterns, each as fabulous as the next. Miss Annie sells her crochet patterns at https://annie-potter-presents.storenvy.com/

These were for sale at the Benbrook Antique Mall in Benbrook, TX. It’s definitely worth stopping by there. Make sure you have ample time, because it’s a big place.

Respect to anyone, living or deceased, who has cro Respect to anyone, living or deceased, who has crocheted a whole Killarney Bedspread! The frame of the bedspread square alone has taken me days to crochet. Luckily, my goal was to make only one square, to experience how it was accomplished.
The pattern is from Irish Crochet Designs and Projects, edited by Mary Carolyn Waldrep, Dover Publications Needlework Series.

In a blast from the past, an editor I knew from La In a blast from the past, an editor I knew from Lark Books emailed me last fall and asked if I would be interested in designing some crocheted flower bookmarks. Why yes, I would!
The deadline was short for a spring publication date, so I got busy.
The finished product was a kit with five colors of yarn, a crochet hook, a yarn needle and a book with written instructions for eleven flowers and fun finials and many step-by-step photos.
Crochet Botanical Bookmarks the kit is available for purchase online and probably some craft stores.

On a road trip with friends, we stopped in Three R On a road trip with friends, we stopped in Three Rivers, Texas, at The Goodie Box Gifts and Antiques Co-op. Not surprisingly, there was crochet:
—a bunch of doilies hanging from a hook,
—90 granny squares waiting for someone to come along and sew them together to make a cozy blanket,
—and…oh no!…a crocheted table mat displayed wrong side up! The secretive Clandestine Crochet Flipper got to work. She (yes, we think the CCF is a she) carefully moved several figurines, flipped the crocheted table mat right side up, and replaced the figurines as they had been. Then crocheted popcorn stitches showed to their full, plump advantage, instead of being hidden by their own backsides. Thank goodness the Clandestine Crochet Flipper was on the job that day.
