Corner Buttoned and Bound

by Suzann Thompson | Mar 30, 2012 | Art Quilt, Quilting and Crafting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

What do you think of this neat, mitered corner? My quilting friend Peggy showed me how to sew a continuous binding on a quilt, which miters on the topside and underside of each corner. Thanks, Peggy! This is my first try, and it’s much quicker than my old binding...

Green Socks and Blue Bonnets

by Suzann Thompson | Mar 21, 2012 | Knitting, Life, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Sock season is almost at an end in our part of Texas. It was cool enough this morning for me to wear my latest handmade pair while out running errands and grocery shopping with my mom. After that, I had to change to flip-flops. The yarn is Coats & Clark’s...

Flip Books for Easier Pattern Reading

by Suzann Thompson | Mar 14, 2012 | Crochet, Crochet Garden, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Crocheters! Let’s borrow a trick that knitters have been using for years. When column after column of printed instructions overwhelm them (lace patterns are often the worst), knitters copy the pattern onto index cards: one row to one index card. They punch the...

Daughters’ Advice Proves Invaluable

by Suzann Thompson | Mar 11, 2012 | Art Quilt, Crochet, Crochet Garden, Knitting, Quilting and Crafting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Ella’s hand hovered over a pile of buttons, ready to sort. From Eva’s position in the armchair, she could oversee our work while also texting, facebooking, and doing homework. A box of crocheted flowers stood nearby. It was time to embellish the quilt. Choosing...

A Quilting Ladies’ Valentine Project

by Suzann Thompson | Mar 7, 2012 | Art Quilt, Knitting, Quilting and Crafting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

This year, Valentine’s Day fell on Tuesday, which is the day our weekly quilting/crafting group meets. To celebrate, we were all to make a small quilt, using embellishments or other supplies from everyone in the group. One member made fabric flowers for everyone,...

Kids have Great Ideas

by Suzann Thompson | Mar 7, 2012 | Crochet, Crochet Bouquet, Life, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Every student in my daughter Ella’s class decorated a small box for collecting Valentine’s Day cards and treats. Ella painted a box, inside and out. Then she said, “Mom, may I use some of your flowers?” Of course she might use some of my flowers! She chose a pink...

A year ago I was breathing a bunch of sighs of rel A year ago I was breathing a bunch of sighs of relief, because I had finished an intense crochet design project. I designed, crocheted, wrote patterns, and took step-by-step pictures of a bunch of flowery bookmarks. Most of the ones in the picture made it into a kit published by Quarto.

The Town ‘n Country Quilt Guild of Stephenville, T The Town ‘n Country Quilt Guild of Stephenville, TX, close at 4 PM today. There’s time, if you live close by, to visit all the quilts and the Country Store, where you can find lots of previously loved items for sale. There was a pretty good stack of doilies yesterday, priced to move. Somebody bought a couple or three, and I don’t know what happened after that. Maybe there are some left.

In the summer of 2025, @let_me_ellaborate and @wre In the summer of 2025, @let_me_ellaborate and @wren.nests created a mosaic of willow-pattern china shards for the top shelf of a little bookcase. Their work helped me muster the energy to repaint the bookcase, and later to grout the mosaic.
I put the bookcase back in my bedroom and loaded the books back on the lower shelves. The poor tissue box sits on the floor now, because I am not going to put anything on top of that mosaic, if I can help it! Thank you, Ella and Wren!❤️❤️
