Graceful Yellow

by Suzann Thompson | May 13, 2021 | Art Quilt, Celebrate Doilies, Crochet, Quilting and Crafting, TextileFusion

Graceful yellow flowers grow in front of a crocheted table mat, their brilliant color contrasting with the pale green fabrics of the quilt top. The flowers and the pretty filet crochet mat remind me of a time when more people took time to beautify their homes with...

Three Stories

by Suzann Thompson | May 8, 2021 | Art Quilt, Celebrate Doilies, Crochet, Crochet Bouquet, Crochet Garden, TextileFusion

A fragment of patchwork, a delicate doily, and piece of filet crochet hint at three of the stories in this neatly-kept house. No matter how many floors they may have, all the homes in the places we live, have many stories. In Mirra Bank’s book, Anonymous was a...

Poppy, Doily, Shawl

by Suzann Thompson | Apr 18, 2021 | Art Quilt, Crochet, Doily Adventure, Knitting, Life, TextileFusion

The good thing about having several projects going at once, is that sometimes you finish a couple or three of them in rapid succession. This week’s finishing streak began with a TextileFusion project called A Very Bright Spot in 2020. It’s based on a photo...

Dublin Rippers Reception

by Suzann Thompson | Jul 11, 2018 | Art Quilt, Exhibits & Programs, Quilting and Crafting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

At least 40 people attended the opening reception for the Dublin Rippers Quilt Exhibit on July 6th. I got so busy talking I forgot to take pictures, so imagine our 40 visitors (at least), a table full of nice cheeses, fruit, and crackers, and a white and purple cake...

The Dublin Rippers Quilt Exhibit is the work of a group of five friends who get together once a week for quilting and crafting. We’ve picked our favorite quilts to display at the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Gallery, Tarleton State University, Stephenville,...

Colour Collective Fridays

by Suzann Thompson | Jun 23, 2018 | Art Quilt, Celebrate Doilies, Crochet, Cute Crochet World, Doily Adventure, Knitting, Quilting and Crafting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Fridays are fun on Twitter. The process actually starts the Saturday before, when the Colour Collective (@Clr_Collective) posts a color for the week. The idea is for artists to create a piece using that color, or to find a previous work that has the color in it. On...

I crocheted them from 150 Favorite Crochet Designs, ed. Mary Carolyn Waldrep, Dover Publications.

We stopped by The Trading Post antique mall in Lam We stopped by The Trading Post antique mall in Lampasas, TX, the other day, and found crochet galore! Doilies were everywhere! And, among other crocheted things, there were cute crocheted potholders probably from the 1940s and 50s.❤️

Comanche Mercantile on the square in Comanche, TX, Comanche Mercantile on the square in Comanche, TX, has a charming and interesting variety of textiles in the way-back room. That’s where I saw this lavender pillowcase, appliquéd with the crocheted letters H E R, and trimmed with crochet. It sent me on a deep dive to learn more about His & Hers pillowcases.

I’ve been trying for a long time to get back to blogging. Hand-embellished pillowcases were a reasonably quick and fun subject to write about.

I hope you will read about them here:

Who here had a bed doll with a fancy crocheted dre Who here had a bed doll with a fancy crocheted dress?

I never did, but that doesn’t stop me from admiring the skill and workmanship that goes into making one.

The purple dress is from Annie’s Calendar Bed Doll Society, May 1993. Over the years, Annie Potter came up with dozens of amazing bed doll patterns, each as fabulous as the next. Miss Annie sells her crochet patterns at https://annie-potter-presents.storenvy.com/

These were for sale at the Benbrook Antique Mall in Benbrook, TX. It’s definitely worth stopping by there. Make sure you have ample time, because it’s a big place.
