This one’s called Snowflake Dreams of Spring , and I started it last year in hopes of entering it into the Spring International Quilt Festival in Chicago. Time slipped away, and I didn’t make the deadline. Also, I felt I had to redo some of the quilting...

Ladybug Wall Hanging Done

by Suzann Thompson | Aug 23, 2005 | Art Quilt, Knitting, Quilting and Crafting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Today I sewed the last of 89 buttons on my Ladybug wall hanging. Probably everybody knows this trick already, but I learned it only recently from Sue Hausmann’s Sew Fast, Faster, Fastest. Double your sewing thread, and thread it into the needle, so that you have...

A New Project

by Suzann Thompson | Aug 15, 2005 | Life, Quilting and Crafting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

My favorite things to order from the Herrschner’s needlecraft catalog are felt Christmas ornaments with lots of sequins. They are so cute! It’s so fun to cut along the pre-printed lines and sew the sequins on the dots provided, with the pre-measured...

by Suzann Thompson | Aug 3, 2005 | Life, Quilting and Crafting, Retro Blog Post

It’s been years since we had a vacation on Galveston Island, but I hope it won’t be so long next time. We were there last week with my husband’s family in a lovely house right on the beach. The kids (including my husband) built sand castles and swam....

Crafty Daughter

by Suzann Thompson | Aug 1, 2005 | Crochet, Life, Quilting and Crafting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Have I mentioned that I’m proud of my daughter? She will be 10 in about a month. Even as a small child, she amazed me with her ability to observe and her eagerness to try new things and test her own ideas. We were cleaning out her room recently, when we found...

I’m proud to have served as a CKC Board member since 2018. The Maria C. Vallejo Lace Collection has been years in the making, with a lot of hard work from experts on our Board of Directors. I’m not an expert in collections, but I got to help out as a proofreader. We all pitched in.

I was never very fond of this bedtime prayer, wher I was never very fond of this bedtime prayer, where children had to think about the possibility of dying in their sleep. But I have to admit this filet crocheted version of the prayer with pictures of children was Impressive. You can find the pattern for sale at vintageknitcrochet.net – swipe to see.
Seen at the Austin Citywide Vintage Sale, where Michael Longcrier has his many vintage embroideries, bandannas, quilts, crochet, and clothing piled on tables. He used to sell by the pound, but now he casts his experienced eye over your pile of stuff, and makes mental calculations to arrive at a price.

Political Circus, by Misty M. Cole, was part of 50 Political Circus, by Misty M. Cole, was part of 50 Years of Great Quilts at @quiltfestival last week. It’s a delightful riff on Eveline Foland’s Giddap the Very Democratic Donkey and Ararat the Elephant designs from the 1930s. They’re oh so familiar to me, bc I made them a few years ago. It was great to see this fun new interpretation of fun old designs. Swipe to see more.
