by Suzann Thompson | Feb 29, 2008 | Crochet, Crochet Bouquet, Knitting, Life, Workshops

Stitches West was fun! I met my roommate, button-maker extraordinaire Gail Hughes, at DFW Airport and we flew to San Jose together, talking the whole time. I went with her to Pleasanton, California, on a sales call. Well, she went on the sales call and I had breakfast...

Getting Ready for Stitches West

by Suzann Thompson | Feb 17, 2008 | Crochet, Crochet Bouquet, Knitting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion, Workshops

Stitches West starts in four days! I’ve been revising my Seamless Argyle handout yet again. When I taught this class in the early 1990s, some students complained about the gaps at the edges of the diamonds. Last summer I revised the handout to fix the problem,...

Thank you to everyone who has pre-ordered my new book! It’s coming out in May, which seems like a long time to wait, but you know what? I thought 2008 seemed like a long way away, and here it is, already. Lark Books settled on a cover design for my book, and I think...

by Suzann Thompson | Oct 25, 2007 | Crochet, Crochet Bouquet, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

In the summer of 2025, @let_me_ellaborate and @wre In the summer of 2025, @let_me_ellaborate and @wren.nests created a mosaic of willow-pattern china shards for the top shelf of a little bookcase. Their work helped me muster the energy to repaint the bookcase, and later to grout the mosaic.
I put the bookcase back in my bedroom and loaded the books back on the lower shelves. The poor tissue box sits on the floor now, because I am not going to put anything on top of that mosaic, if I can help it! Thank you, Ella and Wren!❤️❤️

We stopped by The Trading Post antique mall in Lam We stopped by The Trading Post antique mall in Lampasas, TX, the other day, and found crochet galore! Doilies were everywhere! And, among other crocheted things, there were cute crocheted potholders probably from the 1940s and 50s.❤️

Comanche Mercantile on the square in Comanche, TX, Comanche Mercantile on the square in Comanche, TX, has a charming and interesting variety of textiles in the way-back room. That’s where I saw this lavender pillowcase, appliquéd with the crocheted letters H E R, and trimmed with crochet. It sent me on a deep dive to learn more about His & Hers pillowcases.

I’ve been trying for a long time to get back to blogging. Hand-embellished pillowcases were a reasonably quick and fun subject to write about.

I hope you will read about them here:

Who here had a bed doll with a fancy crocheted dre Who here had a bed doll with a fancy crocheted dress?

I never did, but that doesn’t stop me from admiring the skill and workmanship that goes into making one.

The purple dress is from Annie’s Calendar Bed Doll Society, May 1993. Over the years, Annie Potter came up with dozens of amazing bed doll patterns, each as fabulous as the next. Miss Annie sells her crochet patterns at https://annie-potter-presents.storenvy.com/

These were for sale at the Benbrook Antique Mall in Benbrook, TX. It’s definitely worth stopping by there. Make sure you have ample time, because it’s a big place.
