by Suzann Thompson | Dec 11, 2015 | Crochet, Crochet Charm Lace, Crochet Garden, Cute Crochet World

Imagine, for a moment, this dream crochet project: you can make it with leftover yarns or new yarns. You can mix yarn weights and textures. The finished piece can be any shape and size. Best of all, you won’t need to make gauge swatches. Ah, what a lovely dream....

Two Scarves in Love of Crochet Magazine

by Suzann Thompson | Dec 3, 2015 | Crochet, Crochet Garden, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Publishing craft designs in magazines is all about waiting. And waiting. But the waiting eventually pays off, like it recently did for me. The Winter 2015 issue of Love of Crochet features two typically Suzann-ish scarves. The Sparkling Snowflake Scarf is a Crochet...

Knitting and Quilting Puzzling Pinks

by Suzann Thompson | Nov 16, 2015 | Art Quilt, Knitting, Quilting and Crafting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

At 42″ x 31″, Puzzling Pinks is among my largest wall hangings. That’s a lot of knitting! Luckily, at the Ultimate Sweater Machine, I can crank out the stockinette stitch in record time. As usual, I knitted a varied, shaded fabric by changing yarn...

by Suzann Thompson | Nov 12, 2015 | Crochet, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Interweave Crochet Accessories 2016 brings us another project-packed issue, with a convenient pattern index that shows about how much time each project takes to crochet. Among the more time-consuming, but totally worth it, projects is the Picot Fringe scarf by me! A...

Crocheting Flowers for Puzzling Pinks

by Suzann Thompson | Nov 11, 2015 | Art Quilt, Crochet, Crochet Bouquet, Crochet Garden, Cute Crochet World, Quilting and Crafting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Pink! It’s my most favorite color. It’s a good thing too, because the Puzzling Pink wall hanging is covered with dozens of pink flowers and I crocheted them all. And appliqued them. These softly variegated flowers, made with Prism’s Kid Slique, are...

We stopped by The Trading Post antique mall in Lam We stopped by The Trading Post antique mall in Lampasas, TX, the other day, and found crochet galore! Doilies were everywhere! And, among other crocheted things, there were cute crocheted potholders probably from the 1940s and 50s.❤️

Comanche Mercantile on the square in Comanche, TX, Comanche Mercantile on the square in Comanche, TX, has a charming and interesting variety of textiles in the way-back room. That’s where I saw this lavender pillowcase, appliquéd with the crocheted letters H E R, and trimmed with crochet. It sent me on a deep dive to learn more about His & Hers pillowcases.

I’ve been trying for a long time to get back to blogging. Hand-embellished pillowcases were a reasonably quick and fun subject to write about.

I hope you will read about them here:

Who here had a bed doll with a fancy crocheted dre Who here had a bed doll with a fancy crocheted dress?

I never did, but that doesn’t stop me from admiring the skill and workmanship that goes into making one.

The purple dress is from Annie’s Calendar Bed Doll Society, May 1993. Over the years, Annie Potter came up with dozens of amazing bed doll patterns, each as fabulous as the next. Miss Annie sells her crochet patterns at https://annie-potter-presents.storenvy.com/

These were for sale at the Benbrook Antique Mall in Benbrook, TX. It’s definitely worth stopping by there. Make sure you have ample time, because it’s a big place.
