Flower and Button Arranging for Afternoon

by Suzann Thompson | Jun 1, 2016 | Art Quilt, Celebrate Doilies, Crochet, Crochet Bouquet, Crochet Garden, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Blue and orange “Czech Festival Flowers” from Crochet Garden made me think of hollyhocks and other tall flower stalks. For ideas on how to arrange with tall flowers, I typed “tall flower arrangements” into Google Images. The computer screen...

Afternoon Vase and Teacup

by Suzann Thompson | May 31, 2016 | Art Quilt, Celebrate Doilies, Knitting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

When Afternoon’s background was done (see previous post), the cut-out vase and teacup became patterns. I cut the cup further, into saucer, outside cup, and inside cup pieces, and those pieces into pieces again. I arranged the pattern shapes onto knitted fabric...

How Afternoon Started

by Suzann Thompson | May 30, 2016 | Art Quilt, Celebrate Doilies, Crochet, Knitting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Slanting afternoon shadows fill me with anticipation, melancholy, satisfaction. Late in 2014, I knitted yardage to make a wall hanging with slanting shadows and those feelings in it. And for once, no pink was allowed. I put pink in almost everything, because I love...

Making Tropical Sunflower

by Suzann Thompson | May 29, 2016 | Art Quilt, Crochet, Crochet Bouquet, Knitting, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

I consider craft design and art to be two ends of a spectrum. Sometimes they meet, like in my little “Tropical Sunflower” wall hanging. It is knitted and quilted in the TextileFusion tradition, and I embellished with buttons and the very cute...

by Suzann Thompson | Apr 18, 2016 | Crochet, Crochet Garden, Life, Retro Blog Post, TextileFusion

Crochet While Waiting Life and travel include a lot of waiting–at least for me they do. Thank goodness for knitting and crochet, which makes the time fun and productive–like last Sunday, when I was in a long, long security checkpoint line at the airport in...

A year ago I was breathing a bunch of sighs of rel A year ago I was breathing a bunch of sighs of relief, because I had finished an intense crochet design project. I designed, crocheted, wrote patterns, and took step-by-step pictures of a bunch of flowery bookmarks. Most of the ones in the picture made it into a kit published by Quarto.

The Town ‘n Country Quilt Guild of Stephenville, T The Town ‘n Country Quilt Guild of Stephenville, TX, close at 4 PM today. There’s time, if you live close by, to visit all the quilts and the Country Store, where you can find lots of previously loved items for sale. There was a pretty good stack of doilies yesterday, priced to move. Somebody bought a couple or three, and I don’t know what happened after that. Maybe there are some left.

I put the bookcase back in my bedroom and loaded the books back on the lower shelves. The poor tissue box sits on the floor now, because I am not going to put anything on top of that mosaic, if I can help it! Thank you, Ella and Wren!❤️❤️
