Very Bright Spots at Ella’s

by Suzann Thompson | Sep 10, 2026 | Art Quilt, Crochet, Doily Adventure, Knitting, Life, TextileFusion

The year 2020 was like no other in our lives. Many died. Many of the rest of us were lucky (?) enough to stay home to try and avoid catching the COVID virus. My husband Charles went to work, because completing his geoarchaeological work was considered essential for...

Doily Heaven in Lampasas

by Suzann Thompson | Sep 6, 2026 | Crochet, Doily Adventure, Life, TextileFusion

The Trading Post, a good sized antique mall in Lampasas, Texas, has doilies all over the place! It seemed to me like an organized effort by the vendors there, to put their antique and vintage lamps, candlesticks, vases, and china on doilies. It was so pretty! This...

by Suzann Thompson | Sep 3, 2026 | Art Quilt, Crochet, Doily Adventure, Quilting and Crafting, TextileFusion

It’s time to register to vote! …unless you are already registered, of course. In that case, YAY!!! In Texas, our deadline to register to vote in the November 2026 midterm election is October 5, 2026. If you are already registered in Texas, it’s a good idea...

Crochet Treasures in England

by Suzann Thompson | Aug 27, 2026 | Crochet, Doily Adventure, TextileFusion

My little family moved from Texas to the City of Sheffield, England, in 1996, and back to Texas in 2003. This past May, we finally returned to Sheffield for a visit. It was a sweet homecoming. We walked and walked around the Sheffield neighborhoods and surrounding...

His & Hers Pillowcases with Crochet

by Suzann Thompson | Aug 23, 2026 | Crochet, Quilting and Crafting, TextileFusion

I decided to see what I could find online about His & Hers pillowcases, after running across a HER pillowcase at the charming Comanche Mercantile store in Comanche, Texas. I had seen embroidered versions of His & Hers pillowcases, but this was the first time...

Wow! This lovely collar* comes with a Certificate Wow! This lovely collar* comes with a Certificate of Authenticity by some supposed authority in the UK, certifying that it is real, authentic Irish crochet.

Do you see the problem with this?

It goes to show that some claims on Certificates of Authenticity are not true. And that not all people calling themselves experts are what they claim to be.

It certainly is beautiful lace, just not Irish Crochet or any other kind of crochet.

* It really is a collar, but I wanted you to be able to see the details of its construction. Should have taken a picture of the whole thing. Maybe next time.

Close! Mostly I used this No. 10 crochet cotton by Close! Mostly I used this No. 10 crochet cotton by the American Thread Company. Definitely vintage. ❤️
Crocheting these vintage bedspread/tablecloth/doil Crocheting these vintage bedspread/tablecloth/doily motifs has been educational. I think they’re beautiful, but I’m -not- tempted to make a bedspread or tablecloth out of any one of them.

The square at top right, designed in the 1940s or so by Cecilia Vanek, is from the Puritan Bedspread aka County Clare Bedspread. Free pattern here: https://freevintagecrochet.com/bedspread-patterns/star208/puritan-bedspread-pattern

The other three are in 150 Favorite Crochet Designs, Ed. Mary Carolyn Waldrep (Dover), and online sources.

A year ago I was breathing a bunch of sighs of rel A year ago I was breathing a bunch of sighs of relief, because I had finished an intense crochet design project. I designed, crocheted, wrote patterns, and took step-by-step pictures of a bunch of flowery bookmarks. Most of the ones in the picture made it into a kit published by Quarto.
